About us

EDEN Endowment Fund

Shared interest in ecology and activity on smaller projects

Our endowment fund is made up of people mainly outside of professional nature conservation, but with a long-standing practical interest in ecology. After many years of working on smaller projects, we have decided to systematically work to support our Czech nature on a larger scale than our current conditions allowed.

Our goals

Biodiversity Islands

A mosaic of nature-friendly biodiverse areas that will help break up the landscape into multiple habitats and upset the monocultural nature of the landscape. There will be an increase in species diversity and the resilience of the landscape to 'over-breeding calamities' of one species.

Purchase of territories

We are trying to buy up land that has been farmed by people (neglected fields, meadows, logged forest areas) to make room for the creation of a new natural area. We are also interested in areas that have long been abandoned by people, where nature has returned without human intervention and which are potentially threatened.

How do we want to achieve this?

In fields, logged forest units, non-functional meadows and previously intensively used areas, we sensitively recultivate the biotope so that it corresponds as much as possible to the situation that existed in the area before the entry of people with intensive influence on nature. Our primary focus is on the creation of wetland or floodplain forests. This will create sheltered areas and retain water in the landscape. As wetland forests are among those critically endangered, we will help create new habitats for organisms attached to such an enclave.

We buy up areas that people stopped managing years ago and where an interesting natural habitat has developed over the years. It is important to realise that nature and its relationships are extremely dynamic, and individual organisms will immediately begin to occupy a new environment as soon as people allow it. Even such areas are attractive and promising for us (carelessly exploited and managed watercourse floodplains, alluvial meadows, carelessly reclaimed, destroyed wetlands, agriculturally neglected sites, excavated clay fields, surface quarries, etc.).
