At the end of 2021, we managed to buy a small, neglected pond near our wetlands in the cadastral area of Hošťka from a private owner. The owner was a supporter of nature conservation and we agreed on the purchase very quickly. Despite complications with land boundaries, the entire transaction was finally completed. Immediately after the purchase, it was necessary to repair the sluice gate and, most importantly, to protect its wooden parts from destructive attempts by beavers. With the help of DESOP, a high-quality metal cover was finally fitted over the entire cap.
The original owner even caught the fish population, so the pond can expect spring guests in the form of amphibians and insects. We are already looking forward to monitoring animals on the new pond. We named our first larger water area unofficially at the request of the chairman of the endowment fund as Beaver Pond.
