Wet meadows, summer work around the puddles, June 2021

Wetlands are not just water bodies or flooded swamps. The surroundings of our wetland habitats are covered with green vegetation. We do not modify much on some of the areas (for example, the forest area in Lomany or under Dražní), while others we regularly cut.

After landscaping around the teeming and wet terrain, a dynamic community of skirting herbs, mostly merles, lybees, nettles and some thistles, is formed. Since our goal is a wet flowery meadow, it is necessary to mow these places regularly. The most beautiful Czech meadows are not wilderness, but regularly man-made places. It is traditionally mowed twice a year, usually in June and late September.

We have been mowing in Terešov since 2014. It is beautiful to observe the gradual transformation of the herbaceous composition in the meadow around the water bodies. After the explosion of merlíks, the whole area gradually changes. Today, the predominant growth is nettle, but some species of thistles, crossbeds on dry slopes of the moths together with strawberry forest, male carp on shaded moist areas begin to assert themselves. After 2-3 years, when only a few of the most resistant species could be observed, the community begins to enrich with ever-new taxa (systematic groups of plants and animals). It is also necessary to mow the air raids of habers and pines, which would soon grow the whole solar meadow.

We leave the beaded vegetation in place, although perhaps it would be more correct to remove the green matter.
This year is perhaps the best season in terešov pools with a huge number of tadpoles of brown jumpers, many common canoes. This year, collared already hatched and already hunts tadpoles 😊. The repeated occurrence of endangered serrated sinkers is pleasing.

The situation is quite different in the wetlands of Volduchy. Here they painted nicely planted willows, but great damage is done to them by clawed animals. We are counting on the death of up to 2/3 of seedlings, the vast majority are saved, or bitged and pulled out mainly by venison. In the fences, however, the trees have taken a nice turn, and for them it is necessary to cut out the grass in order to let the light to the freshly introduced . Without sticks stuck to trees at the time of planting, it would not be possible to find trees in dense vegetation at all. Most of the seedlings have taken hold, we are very happy about the cranes of goo, which grow nicely.
