Excursion on the Kateřinský brook

PRESS RELEASE DES OP - Animal Rescue Station Plzeň
On Monday 5 August 2024 another expedition excursion took place in our "Private Nature Reserve of Ondrej Hes". Landscapers, water managers of the Pilsen Regional Authority together with the stream managers, in this case representatives of the Forestry of the Czech Republic, came to the Kateřinský brook below the village of Hošťka in the Tachov region.

The aim was to walk together and see a working natural wetland created by the European beaver. We spent over three hours together at the Kateřinský brook and its tributaries and walked over six kilometres according to the pedometer.

We started at Ondřej Hes' stone and walked to our pond through the heart of the reserve and the most beautiful parts of the Kateřinský Brook floodplain. Along the way we met a family of cranes with two chicks and as a bonus we went to see the highest (two-meter) beaver dam, which is unfortunately still outside the territory of our reserve.

The whole event was in a very friendly and pleasant atmosphere, although it was very difficult at times.
